Do You Have to Write on the Holidays?

Do you have to write during the holidays? Do you still have to find time to write and hide away from all the celebrations and the ability to just lie on the couch and do nothing? (what I look forward.)

Short answer: No.

Slightly longer answer: No, you do not have to write during the holidays.

The long answer: You do not have to write, but you can also do whatever you want. If you’re like me, writing is a job (not that I’m making money at the moment…). I block out about 15 hours a week for it, just like I would a “real” job. So when the holidays come around and I have off from work, I want off from work. And that work includes writing. Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t write at all. I’ll journal, maybe write a fun short story  or do some brainstorming. But I probably won’t touch my main projects and I don’t have to do anything.

Now, let’s say you don’t have a lot of time to write in general, so when the holidays come around you are like “FINALLY, I have time to write.” Take that time to write and don’t let it go.

But just remember: You can take the holidays off from writing, just like we take off from school and work. Just because we “like” to write and think writing is “fun” doesn’t mean we don’t need a break from it. Writing is hard. Give yourself a day off.
