MCU Movies as Specific Genres (why? I don’t know)

I was thinking the other day of how the MCU (marvel cinematic universe) movies kind of defy genres. They are their own.  The Superhero genre.

Which – kinda isn’t a genre yet maybe is but you might not find it on an agent or publishing listing. SO. I was thinking if I was pitching the MCU movies to somehow, how would I describe them??

I’m doing these in SEQUENTIAL order because it is important to me. You’re suppose to watch the movies how they happened not how they came out.

Captain America: the First Avenger

Genre: Alternate History. (Fun fact, this was the first MCU movie I saw.)

Captain Marvel

Genre: Science Fiction.

Iron Man

Genre: Sci-fi Thriller.

Iron Man II

Genre: Sci-Fi Thriller.

Thor

Genre: this one is hard, but I’m going to go with science-fantasy, because it does have sci-fi elements but a TON of fantasy – like, it’s Norse gods.

Avengers

Genre: sci-fi. Aliens, spaceships, glow stick of destiny.

Iron Man III

Genre: sci-fi thriller (I think the Iron Man movies are the only ones with consistent genres).

Thor: the Dark World

Genre: science fantasy.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Genre: either cyberpunk or Space Opera. You could classify it as just plain sci-fi but there’s nothing very science-y about it.

Captain America: the Winter Soldier

Genre: thriller (forever will be one of the best MCU movies).

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Genre: Sci-fi. Robots. Mutants. Flying cities.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Genre: again, some weird mixture of space opera and cyberpunk and music video.

Ant Man

Genre: sci -fi thriller. We got heists and stuff.

Captain America: Civil War

Genre: thriller.

Spiderman: Homecoming

Genre: YA sci-fi.

Black Panther

Genre: sci-fi???

Doctor Strange

Genre: urban fantasy. Magic. Urban setting. There you have it.

Thor: Ragnarok

Genre: this movie is it’s own genre. Science Fantasy? But without science?

Avengers: Infinity War

Genre: science fantasy. Things have gotten so wild and crazy we’re way out of just sci-fi now. Also maybe Space Opera??

Ant Man and the Wasp

Genre: Sci-fi thriller. Watch out for Baba Yaga.

Avengers: Endgame

Defies every genre. It’s everything. It’s an epic. It’s the Iliad, the Odyssey, Virgil, Les Miserables, just every grand epic rolled into one long tear jerker.

END

As you may have noticed, I did not do Spiderman: Far From Home because I haven’t seen it and don’t plan on it. Endgame was the end. That was the end of the story I signed on for. So I’m done.

EXCEPT FOR THE BLACK WIDOW MOVIE.

OK, anyway, whatever, this was a really random post, but I was just have always thoughts, “what genre are these superhero movies??” So that’s what I came up with.

Peace out.
