Next week is Halloween (“All Hallows Eve” is what I celebrate but for the general public’s sake, I’ll just go with Halloween). In honor of it being so close to that night (AND NANOWRIMO. Calm down, this has nothing to do with Nanowrimo, I’m just REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT) of candy and pixies, I am going to illustrate that infamous moment when you find our that you’re a writer with the assistance of my favorite Halloween movie:
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. (If you haven’t watched it, go do it now)
It all begins when you discover that you are a writer. Whether you’ve been writing your whole life, or just a couple years, you will have that moment when ALL OF A SUDDEN you realize that you are a writer.
Let’s be honest, it can be kinda scary.
SUCH A SHOCKER, that you have to double check and make sure that you are a writer.
Now, it’s verified. You ARE a writer, right??? So, it’s time to start writing and time to take that charge up San Juan Hil – I mean, take that charge to write your novel.
Well, you’re writing, and you’ve been writing, and writing, and writing….
Everything has begun to fall apart at this point. That novel is all consuming. Once so easy to write, you’ve run out of inspiration and it has turned into disaster and you feel like you just got tied up and gagged by your brother who looks like Boris Karloff.
Your friends and family have noticed. Some have been very supportive and say you just need a break….but some have begun to question this whole “writing” thing.
In a futile effort to explain to them why it is so important that you write, you try to tell them why you have to tell this story and end up explaining it SO badly that you make yourself look even crazier than they thought you were before.
But because you are a writer, you keep writing, and from there –
SEE YOU GUYS DURING NANOWRIMO!!!!!
